- Jamie Carragher disagrees with Gareth Southgate’s decision to drop Trent Alexander-Arnold
- The player has the quality to play as a right wing-back.
- The manager is always ready to give Kieran Trippier a chance.

defender Jamie Carragher has revealed that he disagrees with England manager Gareth Southgate’s decision to field Kieran Trippier ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold at right wing-back in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals, where they won 5-3 on penalties over Switzerland.
Carragher, now a pundit, said: “Kieran Trippier is a good left-back but Southgate has picked him to replace Alexander-Arnold. I don’t really understand his thinking. *I don’t think so because I’m a Liverpool fan.”
“I just don’t understand why he chose Trippier over Trent. The only reason is he has played two or three more games. Maybe Southgate trusts him. But when you’re playing defensively, the whole point of playing with three centre-backs is to free up your wing-backs.”
“You’ve got Kyle Walker on the right wing, he’s the quickest player in the ufabet https://ufabet999.app team who will give you everything if you have to play in defence. And not having Trent play at right wing-back, I can’t believe it. I have to be honest, for me that’s where Trent shines the most.”
“I can’t imagine what his mindset is going into this tournament right now, but Trippier is a player that Gareth trusts to play at left-back, right-back, right wing-back or left wing-back. He seems to always find a place for Trippier.”
